Regular users of the park were very sad to see that one of the trees adjacent to the allotments had been burnt down. We don’t know whether this was deliberate vandalism or carelessness, but either way, the result is the loss of a mature and elegant tree. The Parks Department plans to replace the tree, but perhaps not in the same location.
Another casualty of the fire was a bird nesting box designed for thrushes or blackbirds, made by pupils of Beechen Cliff School and only recently installed.
